There is a popular saying that learned people are fooled, Ek Dhondho Hajar, Mil Jayenge. Astrologer Captain Ashok Kharat’s case seems to have shown this once again. Our country is at the peak of superstition. Many like Kharat who consider themselves as saints, mahants, sadhus, and astrologers are beads of the same garland. Eight years ago, Balayogi Brahmachari Maharaj, head of Narasimha monastery on the banks of the Purna River in Amravati, was found guilty in a sex scandal. His son Narayan Sai was also convicted of raping two girls in Surat. Yet none of Asaram Bapu’s hundreds of ashrams across the country were affected. Who is responsible for this except the rulers? This is a blend of politics and hypocrisy. 35 years ago, the Bhaskar Vagh Maharaj case was also one in the series. We all know the government is giving academic status to astrology. Will the government really justify Kharat’s act? Astrology or divination has often been proven to be false. Ironically, the Israel-Iran war started. At the same time, there was a conference of astrologers in Dubai. Astrologers were stranded in Dubai after the war halted air traffic in the Gulf. Every astrologer started telephone the rulers and administrators of their country-states to help to get rid of the war-like situation there. From this, those who do not know their own future, how can they predict the future of others? This is the question. Is it even possible to end fraud where the followers of rapist baba like Asaram are PM to CM? Five years ago (January 2021), the Modi government decided to give academic status to astrology. Accordingly, the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) under the Central Government has started a two-year course offering ‘Master’s Degree’ (MA) in Astrology. In it, students are given practical education about various branches of astrology. In response to this decision, as astrology is unscientific, this course should have been cancelled. Dr. Narendra Dabholkar’s Maharashtra Anti-Superstition Eradication Committee had already said in a pamphlet that astrology has no scientific basis and the branch of science that studies planets and stars scientifically is called ‘Astronomy’. According to the available studies of that science, the planets and stars in the sky have no influence or effect on human life. Therefore, Dabholkar demanded that the astrology course which claims to teach such completely unscientific things should be cancelled. The Indian Constitution does not allow such things in society as fraud. But it is not taken into account at the government level. Actually, strict action should have been taken against Kharat earlier, but political support is the reason for it. How disgusting that Ling Pisat Captain Kharat urinates in a glass and gives his urine to many women as sacred water. It is equally surprising that women drink that holy water. Journalist Dattatray Khemnar had published an article in his daily Khabardar Pudaari a year ago that exposed Kharat. After publishing this article, Dattatray Khemnar started receiving threats from goons. Rupali Chakankar also talked against reality with Khemnar on his mobile phone. In our country, many citizens, youth and women are suffering from life and death issues. In a democracy, it is the duty of the government – administration to find a solution to the problem, to give an alternative. But the government is always hopeless in this regard. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, on this matter, said that the Kharat case should not be given a political colour. While dissuading the opposition, he said that I could provide evidence that some leaders of the opposition party were actually going there. He also said that he has a lot of evidence of the Kharat case. In fact, the ruling and the opposition should not politicize the issue and stories like Kharat’s should not continue, which keeps the market of superstition growing. Further, if such cases will not happen, then it can be said that the government and administration have taken proper action in the matter.
